Study Areas

Study Area A encompasses Lakeland Provincial Park and Recreation Area, as well as the lands surrounding Wolf Lake. This area is important to the Métis Settlements because it overlaps with two former Settlements that were rescinded by the Alberta Government—Touchwood Settlement and Wolf Lake Settlement—as well as lands and numerous lakes and rivers used to uphold traditional life-ways (e.g., fishing, hunting, trapping, and gathering).

Study Area B stretches from the north end of North Buck Lake to the southern tip of Amisk Lake, encompassing North Buck Lake Provincial Recreation Area. This area is important to the Métis Settlements because many Métis families historically lived and camped along the shores of North Buck Lake. These lands are also used by Settlements’ community members to undertake traditional activities.
